Ian Dorian

Ian Dorian is a character designer, storyboard artist, writer, graphic novel illustrator, and toy designer. Some of his clients include Warner Bros Animation, Marvel Productions, Paramount and Valiant. He has designed characters for intellectual properties such as Watchmen, Avengers, Simpsons, and Family Guy. He has worked as a Storyboard artist for live action films and commercials such as King of Killers and Sony media. Ian designed, plotted and co created the graphic novel Law of Resistance working alongside his co creative partner Matthew Pallotta along with talents such as Jim Krueger, Bill Sienkiewicz, Mark Texeira, Janice Chiang, and Neal Adams.

As a child of Immigrants, Ian learned to appreciate world culture and multiple languages in the home. His family being Armenian, Ukrainian, Egyptian, Asian, and, Sub Saharan African, has helped him see the entire world as his family. From an early age Ian studied ballet, Modern Dance, Wing Chun, and fine art. Among his martial arts instructors were Dan Inosanto, and Rick Stickles. While attending the school for the gifted and talented, he performed in theater, be it classical performances or ballets, such as, Medea, Macbeth, and Tchaikovsky’s the Nutcracker suite. At times, Ian would write and perform in his own productions whether through super 8 film or local stage in public areas. From the age of eighteen through his thirties, he learned from comic book professionals such as Neal Adams, Jack Kirby, Bill Sienkiewicz, Mark Texeira, Joe Kubert, Adam Kubert, and Rags Morales. He taught Figure Drawing and Methods and Materials at the Joe Kubert School while simultaneously teaching at The University of the Arts and the Maryland Institute College of Art. He was captivated by the power of filmaking and animation early in his life. Films such as Superman, Close Encounters, Indiana Jones, James Bond, Back to the Future, The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Blade Runner, Mission Impossible, Terminator, and Star Wars were among the most influential. Ian believes that the value that music brings to cinema cannot be overstated. In his youth Ian’s favorite animated productions were Gatchaman, Bugs Bunny, Johnny Quest, MOTU, the X Men, and, Voltron. As a teen and adult Ian discovered Seinen Anime. Among his favorite are Ninja Scroll, Golgo 13, Cowboy Bebop, Battle Angel Alita (Gunnm), and Vampire Hunter D Blood lust. Though he has a softer side that lives within the world of his favorite live action and animated stories such as Toy Story, Monsters Inc. Ratatouille, the Incredibles, and Wreck It Ralph, When Harry met Sally, . One of his most important experiences exploring his own imagination and stories as a child was playing with his action figures. Having taught and worked as a co director for a summer school over twenty years Ian Believes that allowing children to explore their own reality through play and creative outlets is tantamount to a Childs positive formation.

Outside of his professional art career Ian was accepted into the secret service. He worked for security agencies and spent time as a journeyman for the DoD. Ian is a linguaphile and a voracious reader of theoretical physics with a passion for classical and ancient philosophy and literature. though Ian loves to write and draw action adventure.
